U.S. Trustee Appoints Former DOJ Official as WaMu Examiner
Tuesday, July 27, 2010
Joshua Hochberg, a partner at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP in Washington, D.C., has been appointed as examiner of Washington Mutual's bankruptcy proceedings, according to a Reuters article.
Hochberg, a former U.S. Department of Justice top official in the criminal fraud unit, will examine and review a recent settlement that could help WaMu reorganize, the article said. Hochberg's appointment was announced by the Office of the U.S. Trustee (a part of the Justice Department) just days after Judge Mary Walrath in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the District of Delaware said an examiner should be appointed. WaMu's shareholders have been pushing for the appointment of a examiner, saying that they have been "shortchanged" in WaMu's bankruptcy.
At the DOJ, he was chief of the fraud section, criminal section, Reuters said. The appointment is subject to court approval.
